Despite
of losses due to Hartals How Bangladesh is making significant progress in
economic development? “According to World Bank economist Bangladesh
did five important things making significant progress in economic development
are Emphasis on private sector especially RMG, emphasis on remittance and
manpower export, recognizing the role of NGOs, excellent disaster management
and poor friendly public expenditure.”
Historical
evidence shows that during the present democratic system initiated in 1991, the
average number of Hartals per year has been more than three times higher (46
per year) compared to earlier regime (CPD)
So
According to statistics “The Number of Hartals occurred in the History of
Bangladesh is 1208 days (approximately 3.3 Years) + days ahead”. Bangladesh is
trying to recover its total losses of $
? Billion (As we
are still counting) One recent estimate
puts the economic loss at $205 million for every hartal day (Daily Star 26th March 2013)
Political
disturbances affect production and transaction, Government Effectiveness
reduces the transaction cost of business.
“According to World Bank Governance is
the method through which power is exercised in the management of a country’s
political, economic & social resources for development”
The
kinked relationship theory suggests that governance does not matter at low
levels of development. But governance would be a binding constraint as per
capita income reaches mid- level and above.
